FAQ's
1. Why commission a custom piece of art?
A custom piece is a way to capture something personal in a way that simply doesn’t exist yet. It might celebrate a place you love, a person or pet, or a piece you saw on my site that's no longer available. For me, commissions are collaborations— we work together to create something that will never exist anywhere else.
2. What does a commission cost?
Smaller watercolor pieces (generally under 12" × 16") start around $500.
From there the price depends on size, materials, and complexity. Larger pieces can range up to $10,000 for large-scale works (up to roughly 10' × 10').If you have a project in mind, the easiest thing is to reach out and I can give you a ballpark estimate.
3. How does the payment work?
A 50% deposit is required before I begin work.
The remaining balance is due upon completion and before shipping or delivery.
4. How long does a commission take?
Most commissions take at least 8 weeks.
Larger or more complex pieces — or projects that involve a lot of back-and-forth with the client — can take 12–14 weeks. If you have a specific deadline, it’s always best to mention that early so we can see what’s possible.
5. How much input do clients have in the process?
As much or as little as they’d like.
Some people come with a very clear idea of what they want. Others simply say something like, “I love your work—run with it.”Personally, I enjoy collaboration. If you have photos, stories, colors, or references that matter to you, it helps take the guesswork out and usually leads to a stronger piece.
6. Do I get to see the artwork while it’s in progress?
Yes. I generally check in twice during the process to show works in progress.
Some clients like to stay closely involved, others prefer to be surprised at the end. I’m flexible either way.Additional check-ins are always possible, but they can slow the timeline a bit.
7. Can you recreate a painting you've already sold?
I can create something similar in spirit or inspired by a previous piece, but wouldn't and couldn't do a replica.
8. I’ve never commissioned art before. What if I’m nervous about it?
Totally normal. Many people commissioning a piece are doing it for the first time.
My goal is to make the process relaxed and collaborative. We’ll talk through ideas at the beginning, and you’ll see the work as it develops. If something isn’t quite right, we can adjust along the way. In the end, the goal is simple: a piece you’re genuinely excited to live with.
